Happy Spring?

March 20, 2013 By Gail Leave a Comment

Cuddled beneath my two layers of blankets, I knew that spring had technically arrived.  Somewhere else.  It was 4 degrees outside our bedroom window with a wind chill in the below zero area.  No fuzzy bunnies hopping through freshly sprouted grass, no butterflies drinking from dancing tulips in our back yard.  Just lots of snow, cold, and ill-timed husbands.  Uh? You say.  Let me explain.

Every morning before heading off to work my husband kisses me goodbye for the day.  I’m in bed, sleeping and drooling on my pillow when this occurs.  This morning he had just gotten back from walking our dog in the sub-zero wind chill when he placed his frozen hands upon my warm, covered, sleeping body parts.  For some reason this woke me up.

Husband: “Good morning! I love you my beautiful sleeping wife.”

Me, cranking one eye open and looking at clock: “You’re leaving already?”

Husband: “Yeah. That’s what I do when I go to work in the morning.”

Me: “But it’s only 6:45. Why are you leaving now?”

Husband: “WHAT? 6:45?  I thought it was 7:45. Argghhh!”

He quickly sheds his clothes and jumps back into bed.  This is about as comforting as the Titanic snuggling next to the iceberg.  I try to ignore the Arctic blast and go back to sleep. Two seconds pass peacefully.

Husband: “Can you give me a back scratch?”

Me: “NO! I’m trying to sleep.”

Husband: “Just a little one?  Please? It will help me get back to sleep.”

Me: “NO! I’m trying to sleep.”  I start scratching his back.  Two seconds pass peacefully.  Husband starts snoring as I stare at the ceiling wide awake.

Living with my man?  It is the best part of my day.

A Message From Gail

Through my blog and website, I hope to share beauty, laughter, inspiration, aging & midlife lessons and advice on dealing with menopause. I will also devote time to integrative health and healing tips and news. I want feedback and questions because, while we may be sharing the journey, every woman has her own experience and her own story.
