The Good, The Good, and The Boring

August 20, 2015 By Gail Leave a Comment

Clint Eastwood’s iconic spaghetti western, The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly has been around forever (if forever is circa 1966). That said, I never watched the film until this past weekend, and it got me thinking about what other snippets of life come into those categories.

How about carrot cake (good), lima beans (BAD), and calf brains (ugly)? Just a guess on that last one. It’s too sad to think about.

How about the smell of a baby’s hair (sooo good), the smell of a baby’s diaper when filled (soo bad), and those times when the diaper loses the battle and the contents run down said baby’s legs (wooo eeee ugly)? No guessing there.

Okay. So that’s a few good, bad, and ugly themes. How about a “the good, the good, and the boring theme?” This past week I had two exceptionally good things happen (plus uncountable really, really, good ones), and was accused of being—gasp—boring:

  1. tad with foodGood.  My friend, Janice Billman, gave us a pint of wild blueberries picked near Ely, Minnesota. Wild blueberries! If you’ve ever had the opportunity to pick wild blueberries you know it’s not an easy task. There are uncountable vampire bugs that want your blood. (If you’re picking berries with family or friends the term “swat team” has new meaning.) There are brambles that scratch, and hours of numbing plink, plink, plinks as the bucket slowly fills. The reward is the flavor, however. I turned those little orbs of blue joy into a blueberry crisp. Not only is it delicious, but my husband hasn’t stopped smiling. Pass the ice cream and a big scoop, please.

I want feedback and questions because, while we may be sharing the journey, every woman has her own experience and her own story.
