Hat trick…

October 3, 2011 By Gail 2 Comments

My husband and I were driving Booker to the paved trail near town for a good run. Now, before you get all snippy and say, “Why didn’t you just run him to the trail?” I’ll just say we live miles from the trail and it would require going through traffic situations we don’t care to bring a dog through on foot. ANYWAY, Booker likes to stick his head out the SUV windows to take in the breezes, so we try to accommodate him.* On this trip I opened the sunroof for an extra gale-force airstream, and Booker loved it.
After a while he stepped onto the console that separates the driver’s seat from the passenger’s seat and stuck his head out of the sunroof. Booker’s eyes were tiny slits and I swear he was panting, “I’m the king of the world…” as humanity sped by at seventy miles an hour. Okay, that was pretty darn cute. But then he put his right paw on my husband’s shoulder and his left paw on top of my husband’s baseball-capped head to go even higher out the sunroof. I looked over just in time to see Booker’s paw pushing the baseball cap down over my husband’s face like a slow mudslide. This was really funny until I remembered my husband was driving and probably should be able to see.
I put Booker back into the more sedate confines of the cargo area as my husband restored his cap and harrumphed tongue-in-cheek style. I tried not to laugh, I really did, but within moments we were lost in a fit of giggles. Booker, my husband, and a perfect “you had to be there moment”…they were the best part of my day.
* Just a reminder…we live in Minnesota. Our accomodations do not include winter driving. Just saying.

A Message From Gail

Through my blog and website, I hope to share beauty, laughter, inspiration, aging & midlife lessons and advice on dealing with menopause. I will also devote time to integrative health and healing tips and news. I want feedback and questions because, while we may be sharing the journey, every woman has her own experience and her own story.
